Caturdasi in Germany Posted April 30, 2003 Dear Vaishnavas, Please accept our respectful obeisances. Sri Sri Guru Gouranga Jayate. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. All glories to Sri Sri Prahlada Laxmi Narasimhadeva. We invite every Vaishnava to this year's Sri Nrsimha Caturdasi Maha Mahotsava at Sri Nrsimha Ksetra, Germany. The festival will take place from the 15th of May 2003 till the 18th of May 2003. Every day will feature special homas and pujas performed for the Lord's pleasure and abundant Hari Katha. For accommodations during your visit, please contact us or feel free to book yourself in one of the motels around the temple area (addresses below). By Tusti Mohan Krsna das Posted April 30, 2003 Dear Devotees, Dandavat Pranams I would like to share some pictures of the samadhi of HH Tamal Krsna Goswami in Mayapur now that it is completed. I am sending different angles of the samadhi, which is close to Srila Prabhupada's Puspa Samadhi. In this area, other samadhis will be added for senior disciples of Srila Prabhupada. Your servant, Please see attached photos or visit www.mayapur.info for more information. From Subuddhi Krishna das Posted April 30, 2003 A few Bangalore-based devotees have joined hands to launch the first web site fully focused on Prasna Sastra (Horary). The web site is called www.questionoflife.com Prasna is a lesser-known branch of Vedic Astrology and it eliminates the errors in horoscopes caused by confusion about the exact time of birth. Prasna considers only the time of the asking of the question for calculations. This time can be accurately noted and the results are incredibly accurate. Devotees can take advantage of this celestial science and seek some advice from experts. Subuddhi Krishna das [Article complete on this page]

Rama Dasa Out of Hospital Dear devotees, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. Last week Sri Rama Prabhu was released from hospital and returned to his home, where he remains under the care of his wife Narayani Mataji and receives regular nurse visits. Although he is no longer in critical condition, he may not be completely out of danger because of a lingering on-and-off abdominal infection, which should subside over time. However he is cheerful and eager to return to active service in Srila Prabhupada's mission. Sri Rama and Narayani have expressed deep feelings of gratitude for the offerings of support from all the devotees in their moment of need. The goal we had set for the emergency period has been easily passed due to the generosity of ISKCON's congregation. Thank you all for your help. The Festival is really impressive. It is now held over the Easter weekend from Friday to Monday (four days). They have beautiful gates inviting people to enter, and there are posters all over the city. Literally tens of thousands of people come every day. The first day they distributed about 25,000 plates of free prasadam. The second day they distributed 35,000 plates. Every day it increased. Over the four days over 120,000 plates of free prasadam were given out. It is nice prasadam: birani rice, dal, and halavah. Text and photos by Vrindavan Lila Devi Dasi Posted April 27, 2003 Here are some pictures I took of a monkey who was openly stealing things from people right in the middle of a busy thoroughfare. He would sit and wait for an unaware passer-by. Then he would jump and grab what he could and run up the tree. In one of the pictures he is in the tree, ripping open a bag of puffed rice he had stolen from a girl. Your servant,

Street Chanting A Truly Inspirational Festival By Bhakta Joe Merlino Posted April 26, 2003 Regarding "The Solution to our Difficulties" posting: Radha Govinda is, of course, correct. Because Harinama is what Srila Prabhupada told everyone to do. He led the very first Harinamas in Mahattan. Radha Govinda, do you feel that the Festival of Inspiration in New Vrindavan would be truly inspirational if the leaders would lead a Harinama? Regarding Bhakta Omer's "Street Chanting vs Offenses" posting: Mayapur Goshala
Street Chanting Obeisances to all of the sincere Vaisnava servants of Srila Prabhupada. I have been reading the ongoing dialogue "To Harinam or Not to Harinam." I have taken note of Prabhu's comments that our ecstatic, glorious Harinams sometimes give many established and somewhat modest people an image that we are a little strange. I have also taken note that in some countries like France and Israel it creates a particularly strong negative (what was called "purifying") response. May 31 – June 1, 2003 Second Annual
Expand Your Consciousness…
Street Chanting Prabhus, A short note to state that Mother Radhanuga devi dasi, who wrote the wonderful article titled "On Fearless Preaching," is more than absolutely correct. In fact therein is the key to the solution to all of our difficulties, both as individuals and as a movement. Because we have given up the daily Sankirtan Yajna, we are not receiving the higher taste in order to give up the lower tastes. Therefore our consciousness remains materialized and automatically there will be bickering amongst ourselves, and all our energies become devoted to such, as opposed to dedicating our energies in giving Krsna to others. By Bhakta Omer Posted April 25, 2003 Please accept my most humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. Recently we’ve heard many views and opinions about the subject of street chanting, whether it's right or wrong as far as public relations are concerned. All devotees sharing their opinions on this matter, regardless of what their opinions might be, are certainly doing so out of concern for the future of our preaching and must all be respected for doing so. Casting of Mayapur Deities Begins by Kalakantha das (ACBSP) Posted April 23, 2003 Dear Devotees, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. The casting of the permanent Deity of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu for ISKCON Mayapur has begun in South India. Jananivas and Pankajanghri Prabhus are overseeing the process. The seven-foot form of Lord Caitanya, comprised of eight auspicious metals, is the first of the Panca Tattva Deities to be cast. These Deities will be installed in Mayapur on March 3, 2004, to be worshipped in the present Panca Tattva temple until the permanent Temple of the Vedic Planetarium is completed. Many devotees from around the world are contributing to this auspicious event with their prayers and various gifts, including gold jewelry and coins that have been included with the casting metals. To inspire book distributors New BBT Book on Distribution From Sadasiva das Posted April 23, 2003 Dear Devotees, Please accept my most humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! The BBT will publish an inspirational book with quotations by Srila Prabhupada about book distribution. We are not sure yet about a title but it will be the size of a CD jewel case and each page spread will feature one quotation by Srila Prabhupada and a beautiful black-and-white picture of Srila Prabhupada. I was reading with interest the debate on Fearless Preaching. It reminded me of my first Harinamas in Paris and other towns of France. I felt so sad and humiliated when people threw tomatoes and eggs at me. What I thought to be the greatest thing on Earth was considered dangerous and crazy. French people still see the devotees as crazy people and Lord Caitanya's movement as a dangerous cult. By Nandirupaka dasa Posted April 23, 2003 Dear Prabhus and Matajis, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! The flat was built by a Swiss devotee (Dina Caitanya dasa) three years ago, and it is situated along Tarampura Road in the area of the planned Temple of the Vedic Planetarium (just outside of the ISKCON area). It has four big rooms, marble floors, and two balconies, all about 110 sq meters, and it is located on the top floor of the building (flood secure!). It is of a unique construction quality (Swiss made...) for Mayapura, and it has its own water well and electricity, garden piece, and a guard. Posted April 23, 2003 Dear Devotees, Hare Krishna. Ratha Yatra 2003 Hare Krsna! ISKCON of Cleveland, Ohio, will be holding its first Ratha Yatra in over 30 years along with The Festival of India. The event is on Saturday May 31st. The parade starts at Lincoln Park at 11:00 am on the corner of W. 14th and Kenilworth, with the festival to follow. We're urging devotees to get there early to glorify Their Lordships Sri Sri Jagannatha, Baladeva, and Lady Subhadra. Street Chanting Bhakta Joe answers Malati Devi Dasi Posted April 22, 2003 Malati Devi Dasi writes: If only stopping "street chanting" would increase our numbers then I am certain we would all follow that advice. The point made above is also incorrect. Srila Prabhupada stresses three activities: distribute books, do Harinam, and distribute prasadam. Srila Prabhupada established ISKCON as a preaching platform. He stresses the three activities above. We are not interested in any other advice than the advice given by Srila Prabhuapada. With all due respect. Diary of a
Traveling Preacher March 28 - April 19, 2003 After the festival in Laguna Beach, Sri Prahlad and I continued our two-month preaching tour of North America, visiting New Vrindavan, as well as temples in San Jose, Pittsburgh, Columbus, and Chicago. As we sat at a departure gate in Chicago's O'Hare Airport waiting for a flight to Toronto, Canada, I picked up a USA Today newspaper that someone had left on the seat and began glancing through the photographs and articles about the Iraq War. United States Marines were securing strategic points throughout the capital, Baghdad, while British soldiers from the 2nd Light Tank Regiment were patrolling the streets of Basra, Iraq's second largest city. Drawn to the piece about the Marines I read on, noting their courage and skill in battle. At one point I stopped and reflected on my own time in the Marines, taking pride that in 1968 I had excelled in advanced infantry training, particularly use of the M60 machine gun, my preferred weapon. Suddenly I threw the paper to the side. "What in the world am I doing?"

Mayapur A Guesthouse on the Canary Islands By Jayadev dasa Posted April 17, 2003 Dear Devotees, We have a nice project called Govardhana A Mar, three km from the sea on Tenerife, Canary Islands. Come to our guesthouse for a retreat (writing a book, working, etc.) or for holy days. And it is a perfect place for giving seminars. One apartment (kitchen/ bath) will cost you 320 euros a month or 150 euros a week. Nearby is our temple, where we have programs that you are free to attend. The temperature is around 20 degrees Celsius the whole year— always springtime. ("Of seasons I am flower-bearing spring." Bhagavad-gita 10:35)
Street Chanting Hare Krishna Prabhu, From your article, it appears that you equate Sankirtan (congregational chanting of the Holy Name in public) with the fact that the Israeli Yatra did not grow numerically; ie: now that you do not chant in the streets, it has grown. What exactly brings you to that conclusion? If you are now growing in numbers, surely it cannot only be due to the cessation of Harinam? Surely now you must be doing other things that attract people? If only stopping "street chanting" would increase our numbers then I am certain we would all follow that advice, but somehow, I feel it is misleading. With all due respects. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. I appreciate your faith in the Holy Name. As a follower of Srila Prabhupada, one should fearlessly preach the mission of Lord Caitanya in every town and village. However, one should apply it wisely, according to time and circumstance. Sri Rama Das A Humble Request for Help by Paradheya Das Posted April 16, 2003 Sri Rama Prabhu joined ISKCON in 1974 at the age of 19, boarding the Radha Damodar traveling party. He became involved in ISKCON education and took over as minister of education from Jagadish and the chaos that was left behind. Sri Rama was a pioneer in the field of uncovering the dark reality of widespread child abuse within ISKCON's education system and worked hard to create awareness within ISKCON for taking action to eliminate the perpetrators of this evil. Later he was involved with the European BBT and some of ISKCON's legal issues. In recent months he has been an enthusiastic member of the fledgling preaching center that began last year in Sacramento, CA. His lucid and articulate explanations of Vaishnava philosophy to the congregation reveal the depth of his realization and his devotion to Srila Prabhupada's mission.
Remembering Gaura Purnima Dear devotees, Dandavat pranams. Preaching Recently, while on Ganga Safari, we were fortunate to hear from His Grace Uttama Sloka Prabhu, regional secretary for the Ural region of the former Soviet Union. He is a blissful and powerful preacher, and he has many amazing stories to tell. He described that he first heard about the Hare Krsnas by reading an anti-cult book that was published by the government. They stated that the Hare Krsnas were especially stupid since they just repeated the same words again and again. He thought there must be something to it and sought out the devotees. April 11, 2003 Posted April 14, 2003 Appearance Day of Lord Ramacandra Hillsborough, North Carolina Gaura Purnima Performances "Look at that boy! He’s covered with jewels!" said one thief to another. So began a drama with some of our youngest students, ages 4-8. Each student not only remembered his or her lines but brought great charm and expression to the two plays—"The Thieves Try to Steal Nimai" and "Nimai takes the Brahmana’s Offering." Having spent over a decade organizing children’s plays, I was astounded to witness how expertly the teachers had directed this production. Teacher Campakalata told me that all the actors and actresses had their parts memorized four days after receiving their scripts.

Rama Navami
in Mayapur From Vrindavan Lila Dasi Posted April 13, 2003
Rama Navami in Mayapur was very sweet. In the Srimad Bhagavatam class, H.H. Jayapataka Maharaja read that remembering the pastimes of Sri Ramachandra relieves one from envy in the heart. Devotees gathered around Deities of Sita-Ram-Laksman-Hanuman, which were made from clay especially for this occasion. We had abhiseka, puspanjali, arotika, and very sweet kirtan. Then maha-prasad was distributed to all devotees and guests. Jaya Sita-Ram! Hare Krishna! Your servant, Sri Rama Dasa By Paradhyeya (das) Posted April 13, 2003 Dear devotees, Please accept my humble obeisances, all glories to Srila Prabhupada. Sri Rama Prabhu spent the first three days after his operation in apparent unconsciousness, then slowly he was able to recognize his wife, Narayani Mataji, and then others who went to visit him. It is obvious that diabetes has taken a significant toll on his health, and he is taking longer than would be normal for other people to respond to medication. However, from the point of view of an observer, it appears that he is making steady incremental progress day by day. By Bhaktin Erica Wolski Posted April 13, 2003 Dear Devotees, I work for the California Department of Health Services Drinking Water Program and graduated from college with a degree in civil engineering, specializing in water quality and treatment. I am writing in response to Pandava Sakha prabhu's article posted on dipika.org on April 11th. Many people are in the business of selling water filters these days and use scare tactics to sell their filters. Please do not be fooled by them. It is perfectly acceptable to use a filter to improve the taste and odor of your drinking water. Even I do that. But if your water is indeed contaminated either with pathogenic bacteria or viruses or with chemical contaminants, you should not rely solely on the advice of someone in the business of selling water filters. Remembering Gaura Purnima Rathayatra in Mayapur By Tusti Mohan Krsna das Posted April 11, 2003 Dear Devotees Dandavats. As part of the festivities that we have in Sri Mayapur dham for this very auspicious occasion of Sri Gaura Purnima festival 2003, today morning (17-3-03) we had a very ecstatic Rathayatra festival. It was great to see the mood of the devotees during this transcendental event, made famous all over the world by His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada. The Absolute Truth is that from which everything emanates... The supreme one who is celebrated as the Supreme Being or the Supreme Soul is the supreme source of the cosmic manifestation as well as its reservoir and winding up. Thus he is the Supreme Fountainhead, the Absolute Truth (S.B. 2.10.7) Since the cosmic manifestation is an incarnation of Lord Krsna's energy; logically all aspects of creation must reflect the nature of the original cause, i.e. the Supreme Being, Lord Sri Krsna. Therefore, we should be able to empirically verify that any action (vikarma) which violates the basic tenets of Krishna consciousness will also be socially and environmentally unsustainable in the long term. All glories to his sincere followers. By the grace of Srila Prabhupada and the efforts of his sincere followers, the number of practicing devotees in ISKCON is increasing all over the world. Pirates At It Again By Nrsimhananda dasa Posted April 3, 2003 Dear Devotees, The pirates are anxious to take your laksmi for bootlegged DVDs of Srila Prabhupada, but you won't be getting what you expected. First, you'll be purchasing the bad karma that goes along with acquisition of stolen goods. Second, no one has the masters of the material except ITV in Los Angeles. The DVD's currently being offered are reproduced from VHS tapes of substandard quality. Moreover, DVD has substantial compatibility problems. Unless high quality blanks are used, cheap media is notorious for not being able to play on many set-top boxes and computers. Remembering Tamal Krishna Goswami By Ananda Tirtha Das Posted April 3, 2003
This is something I wrote in April last year describing my impression of HDG Tamal Krishna Maharaja's disappearance. Hare Krishna. ***** March 15 began as any other day during the Festival in Mayapur: a sweet and crowded mangala-arati spent wriggling and weaving through crowds of devotees, especially around Nrsimhadeva's altar and during Tulasi-puja. Little did anyone know what was to come. During the announcements, I noticed BB Govinda Maharaja standing near the microphone. One of the announcements was that six devotees in Mauritius had died in a car accident. Once the regular announcements were over, Govinda Maharaja took the mike and made the following announcement: "Hare Krishna, we've just received news that His Holiness Tamal Krishna Goswami has been involved in a car accident and is unconscious. So we request the devotees to observe a one-minute silence and pray for his well-being." By Dharmatma dasa Posted April 3, 2003 Sitting in a large circle with many others, at our first Sunday feast and contact with the Hare Krishna's, Mother Lakhima and I took in the surroundings. Wonderful incense filled the air and around the room were beautiful posters of Krsna and His pastimes. Two boys dressed in orange began chanting the Hare Krshna mantra but they were a little off key and seemed not too certain of what they were doing. We were just about to get up and leave as this "happening" just didn't seem to be, when from outside came a sweet and melodious sound accompanied by drums and cymbals. Bahudak with a huge smile on his face along with twenty singing and dancing devotees proceeded to weave between all of us guests and had us dancing and chanting like madmen within moments. Next he gave an inspiring and personal talk on the joys of Krshna Conscious life and then personally served us the most incredible foodstuffs we had ever tasted. He paid special attention to both of us and totally won us over with the help of mother Nirupama's strawberry malpura. Parasara Muni Said WHAT? Remembering Gaura Purnima Hare Krsna Prabhus, We're in the middle of the Mayapur Festival in Sridham Mayapur. Today is the third day of the Navadvipa Mandala Parikrama, and there are two parties going separately (walking an average of five miles a day) to many of the different holy places commemorating the pastimes of Gaura Nitai. About three thousand devotees accompanied by eleven sannyasis are taking part in this most ecstatic event. On the second day, after Jayapataka Swami spoke about the Deity of Hari-Hara, a Deity that is half Siva and half Visnu, he asked if anyone in the crowd (of about a thousand devotees) would like to volunteer to do a five-minute skit about the pastimes of Lord Caitanya.
