Please see http://www.mayapur.info for the latest 2003 GBC resolutions. In addition to these resolutions, the website is being updated daily with news and festivities related to Sri Mayapur Dhama. Your servant, [Article complete on this page] By Umapati Swami Posted February 28, 2003 Kusakrata dasa, a disciple of Srila Prabhupada, has been diagnosed with incurable cancer of the throat, and the doctors estimate that he will leave his body within six months to a year. He is presently living in a small rented room in Vrindavan near Sri Sri Radha Ramana temple, and he is penniless. Kusakrata Prabhu spent many years translating Vaisnava texts from Sanskrit into English, and his publications have been widely read throughout ISKCON. Arrangements are underway to set up a fund for his care. More news will be posted as it becomes available. [Article complete on this page] By Prithu dasa Posted February 28, 2003 Dear devotees, Please accept my most humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. I am having a complication in the healing process after being gored by a cow in Vrindaban some days ago. Since allopathic medicines so far have not helped much, I need to get hold of some (ideally organic) cayenne pepper, which is excellent for stopping bleeding by working from the inside out. (Chili pepper, although in the same capsicum family, does not have the same medicinal properties). Thanks from the Prison Ministry by Bhakta Chris Posted February 28, 2003 Hare Krishna. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! I would like to express my appreciation to everyone who has sent stamps, money, books, japa beads, etc., to help us in spreading Krishna consciousness throughout our nation's prisons. We are doing a very difficult task by trying to introduce Krishna into the prisons, and we can use all the help we can get. Hansadutta Remembers Prabhupada From Siddhanta dasa Posted February 26, 2003
At the initiation a kind of funny thing happened. We of course knew that when you get initiated you get another name. My karmi name was Hans Kary, and I never liked my name because I was an immigrant. Ever since childhood, I wanted to be integrated into the social environment of my peers, so I always wanted to change my German name, Hans Kary, to something else. So upon initiation I was really anticipating getting a very exotic new name like Hanuman or Hari dasa. So when it came time for me to receive my beads, as I bowed down Prabhupada said, "Your name is Hansadutta." Annual Report of the Association for the Protection of Vaisnava Children for 2002 From Dhira Govinda dasa Posted February 26, 2003 February 21, 2003 Dear Maharajas and Prabhus, Please accept my humble obeisances. I look forward to continued service to the Vaisnava community through the child protection office. Please contact me if you have any questions or comments on the report, or in connection with any child protection concerns. Hare Krsna. Your servant, Dhira Govinda dasa APVC- Director Posted February 26, 2003 Dear Maharajas, dear Prabhus, and dear Prabhvis, Please accept our respectful obeisances. We would like to take the opportunity to heartily invite all devotees from far and wide to visit our German farm project, Nava-Jiyada-Narasimha-Kshetra (NJNK) and have the darshan of Sri Sri Prahlada-Narasimhadeva. Sri Sri Krsna Balarama, ISKCON Vrndavana By Padmapani das Posted February 18, 2003
In honor of Manasatita Prabhu, a devoted disciple of Srila Prabhupada I used to see Manasatita Prabhu in India quite often in the late seventies and early eighties when traveling there from the Middle East. He was very friendly and always had a big smile on his face. In fact, he used to make me laugh with his lighthearted — but Krsna conscious — sense of humor. Although I'm very sad to hear of this dear Prabhu's passing on, his life is glorious. It has been confirmed by a number of devotees that Manasatita Prabhu is the one Srila Prabhupada was addressing on the japa tape: "Sit properly." What a benediction to be immortalized on Srila Prabhupada's japa tape. Now whenever I hear Prabhupada say, "Sit properly," I will always remember our dear Godbrother, Manasatita Prabhu. If anyone coming to the 2003 Mayapur festival would like to donate any gold ornaments, etc. to be added the the forms of the Pancatattva during casting he or she can contact Jananivasa prabhu or me (Pankajanghri das). Sri Advaita Acarya Bhaktivedanta College: An Enlivening First Term By Tattvatit dasa Posted February 7, 2003
The very first three-month term at Bhaktivedanta College, in Radhadesh (Belgium), drew enthusiastic appreciation from the college's principal and nine students. You can read samples of their appreciations here and see their photos. For more information, please visit the College website: Beyond My Expectations Yadunandana, 39, serves as the principal of Bhaktivedanta College. Two years ago, I began thinking of committing myself to the development of Bhaktivedanta College. The College would contribute to the development of systematic education in ISKCON and conscientiously train devotees to offer substantial service to Srila Prabhupada, his movement, and the general public. Gopal-Soft-Toys is a devotee-family run business supporting Vaisnava education and cow protection. Diary of a Traveling Preacher Posted February 7, 2003 January 12 - February 6, 2003 Soon after my departure from the Persian Gulf, my curiosity as to how Krsna consciousness would spread in Islamic countries was answered when my Godbrother, Bhakti Bringa Govinda Maharaja, invited me to Kazakhstan to participate in a five-day festival celebrating the end of the Christmas Marathon. After tolerating the heat of Arabia, I braced myself for the severe winter of Central Asia and boarded a Kazakhstan Airlines flight from Delhi to Almaty on January 14. Central Asia lies on the ancient Silk Road to the Far East, the trade link between China and Europe for 400 years until the 15th century. The inhabitants are mainly farmers, living in river valleys and oases. A few still live a nomadic lifestyle, continually moving with their livestock across the virtually uninhabited tracts of land in search of fresh pastures. Manasatita Prabhu Leaves Body From Isvara Networks Posted February 5, 2003 We are very sorry to inform you that today, February the 4th, Manasatita Prabhu left his body as the result of a car accident. Italian born, he was one of Srila Prabhupada's disciples. You can find more news on our Italian web site http://www.isvara.it or on our just started English counterpart http://www.isvaranetwork.com Your servants [Article complete on this page] By Madhu Sevita dasa Posted February 5, 2003 Manasatita das, a Prabhupada disciple, passed away last Thursday. The body was found only yesterday on a cliff off the road to Rome, probably hit by a car and left there. Very sad circumstances. An amiable and jolly person, he was also a sincere devotee. Jay Srila Prabhupada. Your servant, [Article complete on this page] By Naveen Panchal Posted February 5, 2003 Hare Krishna! Please accept my most humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! We are looking for one of our very nice devotee friends named Pradeep Jamwal, who actually belongs to Jammu, India, but was working at Chandigarh in Akai. He was a very active member of our IYF(ISKCON Youth Forum), Chandigarh. He was a great book distributor and was ready to do whatever service came in his way for the pleasure of Sri Sri Radha Madhava. By Gurudas Posted February 5, 2003 Devotees came from near and far, from all ten directions. Hospitality and care was there from the start. As I entered the compound, a whole new array of buildings unfolded. When I left Bombay in 1977, just the skeleton of the new guesthouse had begun. Now two grand hotel-like guest apartments greeted me. The signboard at the entrance was prominent in front with all the names of the speakers. The names were many old prabhus, friends getting together again. The names before me were all formidable servants of Srila Prabhupad, in their own rights, who would do and did most anything for Prabhupad. The personalities on the signboard went to foreign lands and tolerated austerities in good spirits just to please our spiritual master. By Jayadvaita Swami Posted February 5, 2003 More than 80 new examples online The "changes" and the original manuscripts side by side What's all this hooha about the second edition of Bhagavad-gita As It Is? What was done? Is it really "as it is"? Now, online, you can see more than 80 newly posted examples that answer those questions. The examples show the published versions side by side with the text of the original manuscripts. These new examples join the more than 70 others already on the site. (The examples posted before are now "Part 2," and the new examples are in "Part 1.") By Dravida dasa Posted February 5, 2003 Dear Devotees, Please accept my humble obeisances. Third-World Discount on Vedabase Dear Maharajas/Prabhus, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. Well, this is what every devotee has been hoping for: Will Vedabase ever be affordable and within the reach of all devotees? This great program, which is always on the wish list of the devotees, has been out of reach of the majority of ISKCON devotees, especially those in the Third World countries such as Africans, Asians, and East Europeans. A Response to an Should editorial mistakes be held sacred? Should restoring Srila Prabhupada's words be condemned? By Jayadvaita Swami Posted February 1, 2003 We're sorry to see yet another internet diatribe against the books published by the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust. According to the most recent assault, "we would be hard pressed to find anyone, anywhere, who would entertain the idea that, once published, an author's work may later be edited posthumously." Hard pressed? To find out that this is baloney, one need only browse to, for example, the following web page: <http://www.libraryofamerica.org/ Toronto: World Religion Students Visit New Remuna Dham By Adi-kurma Das Posted February 1, 2003 "Can you explain the word Hare Krsna ?" asked Mark, a world religion student, as I was guiding a group of twenty bright, open-minded students through the temple, explaining about the Hare Krsna Movement. James William Windland (we know him as Larry) is the director of Encounter, a world religion center. Larry brings groups of seekers of religion to the temple and introduces them to Vaishnavism. So on January 7th, he brought a group of world religion students. I explained the roots of Vaishnavism and how the Hare Krishna Movement is related to a bonafide lineage. The students were curious and were shooting questions at me as we walked around inside the temple.
