Tribute to Srila Nayananda das Babaji
Maharaja By Kavicandra Swami Posted January 29, 2003 We will miss his association. We always met him at Camp Hati while on Navadvipa Parikrama. He was always very respectful and enthusiastic for his project. He was a good example of the value of brahmacari life. Reunion of Hearts From the 14th to the 19th of January 2003, a reunion took place at Hare Krishna Land, Juhu. HH Sridhar Swami had called all over the world to invite those disciples of Srila Prabhupada who had helped him found the Hare Krishna Juhu Temple, which is now one of the most well-known temples in Mumbai, India. Many visitors come here every day to have the wonderful darshan of Sri Sri Radha Rasabihari in this, the most attractively built temple you can imagine. Mumbai Silver Jubilee By Parijata devi dasi Posted January 27, 2003 Dear Maharajas and Prabhus, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. The Festival of Reunion and many other programs hosted by Sri Sri Radha Rasabihari Mandir, Juhu, on the occasion of its Silver Jubilee on 14 Jan 2003 were a grand success. The festival was attended by several of Srila Prabhupada's sannyasis and other disciples. Those devotees who helped in early days of the Hare Krishna Land struggle narrated special pastimes about Sri Sri Radha Rasabihari and Srila Prabhupada's battle to acquire and establish Hare Krishna Land. Many devotees were moved to tears to hear about Srila Prabhupada's extraordinary endeavors to obtain Hare Krishna Land and his intimate relationships with his disciples. From Pandava Vijaya dasa Posted January 27, 2003 Just received a letter from a man in prison. His name is Bhakta Stanley Calhoun. He wants association through letters. Maybe someone will write him. He says: Hare Krishna Pandava! All glories to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Please accept my humble respects towards you. May this letter find you and all the other devotees in the best of health. Once again, I want to thank you for sending the "Dangerous TV" videos. I have received three so far, and it has been a gratifying experience. Dangerous
TV (HKTV) Show 97 "Developing Character" with Srila Prabhupada, also with Umapati Swami and Tina Turner. A short history about Srila Prabhupada is followed by one of Prabhupada's first disciples interviewed by a high-school devotee. He is asked why bad things happen to good people, whether a person can stop drinking and taking drugs through Hare Krishna, how a person can start practicing Hare Krishna, and other subjects of interest to young people. Srila Nayananda das Babaji Maharaja Leaves Body By Tusti Mohan Krsna das Posted January 24, 2003 Dear Devotees, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. All glories to His Divine Grace Srila Nayananda das Babaji Maharaja. All Glories to Prabhupada Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur. It is sad news that I have to report to the Vaishnavas around the world, about the entering in samadhi of a great Vaishnava. His Divine Grace Srila Nayananda Das Babaji Maharaja left this world on January 21, 2003 in Sri Dham Mayapur at Sri Gopinath Gaudiya Math, and today [January 23] the ceremony for His Divine Grace’s entering samadhi was held at 11:00 am. His Divine Grace was 95 years old and is a direct disciple of His Divine Grace Prabhupada Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura Maharaja. He was personally doing a very important seva as appointed by His Guru Maharaja— to be the head pujari for almost 74 years of the original Deities of Sri Sri Gaura Gadadhara (500-year-old Deities) in Chapahati, (Gaura Mandal) in the house of Sri Dwijabaninath Prabhu, brother of Sri Gadadhara Pandit. Why the Feet of Sri Guru Are Compared to a Lotus— Part Two By Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja Posted January 21, 2003
This article appeared in issue number 41 of Sri Krishna Kathamrita Bindu, the free fortnightly email magazine from ISKCON Gopal Jiu Publications. Sri Guru is saksad-dharitvena, he is as good as Lord Hari. He does not belong to this material world. He belongs to the spiritual world, Krishna's world. He comes down here out of his causeless mercy, either voluntarily to deliver the fallen souls or when the Lord sends him. Whether he comes here voluntarily or by the will of the Lord, that guru-pada-padma descends here to shower his mercy on the suffering conditioned souls who have been drowning in the dreadful ocean of materialistic existence since time immemorial. That guru-pada-padma descends and stays here in the material world. Help Needed in Return for Work By Subhadra-mayi devi dasi Posted January 21, 2003 Dear devotees, You may remember my appeal about half a year ago. My little boy had multiple ear surgery, and I was asking for paid service in return for a small donation to help me pay those hospital costs. Quite a few devotees sent me help. Some didn't even want anything in return. Krishna knows how grateful I am deep in my heart to all those devotees who helped me. Things were going really well with my little boy (who already turned two last October). I enrolled in school again last week. Did four exams with great results and have two more to go this week. And sure enough, Nitai just turned sick again. My doctor advised me to bring him to the emergency room. And the ordeal with his ears started again. His eardrums just burst. Janaka Maharaja's Visit to Hell Posted January 18, 2003 The following article appeared in issue number one of Sri Krishna Kathamrita Bindu, the free fortnightly email magazine from ISKCON Gopal Jiu Publications. Janaka Maharaja is the father of Sita and a great devotee of Lord Ramachandra. It is described in Srimad Bhagavatam (6.3.20) that he is one of the twelve great authorities on religious principles in this universe. The following story from Padma Purana (patalakhanda 18.31-77) of how Janaka Maharaja once visited hell illustrates the supreme potency of the holy name and the association with saintly persons. Lord Ananta Sesa once narrated a wonderful account of how King Janaka visited the abode of Yamaraja. After a long life, Janaka Maharaja gave up his body through the process of yoga. A divine airplane decorated with many bells descended and Janaka Maharaja boarded it. On the way the airplane came near to the abode of Yamaraja, the lord of death. There, sinners were suffering punishment in millions of hells. When the wind that had touched the body of Janaka came to them they felt great joy and their misery disappeared. The Ginger-Haired Dhorio Maharaj By Ramesh Kallidai Posted January 18, 2003
[This story appeared in the Asian Voice UK's weekly column, "Screaming Hot Bhajiyas" by Ramesh Kallidai, and has been reproduced with their kind permission.] "Sometimes people wonder how a white English guy with red hair can become a Hindu priest – a dhorio Maharaj," laughed Kripamoya Dasa, senior priest at Bhaktivedanta Manor Hare Krishna temple in Watford. "Usually, before I conduct a wedding ceremony, there are a few bemused expressions. But when I start speaking in Sanskrit, and the audience sees the authentic Vedic rituals, they realise that an Englishman can become a true Hindu too." Bhagavad-gita Distribution in Toronto By Adi-kurma Das Posted January 18, 2003 "I will take one box." "I will take two boxes." "Haribol..." That was the mood among the congregation members for distributing Bhagavad-gita As it Is. Yes, I am talking about Gita Jayanti and the book-distribution mood at New Remuna Dham, Toronto, Canada. Book distribution is a service that Arjunanath Das has taken up to glorify Srila Prabhupada: distributing books among the congregation members and to the Torontonians in general. Diary
of a Traveling Preacher December 11, 2002 - January 11, 2003 While leaving the first country on my visit to the Middle East, I was questioned for some time by immigration officials. Eventually they stamped my passport and allowed me to board the airplane. On the flight I sat next to an American businessman, who expressed sympathy for the minor ordeal I had just experienced. "Forgive me if I'm too inquisitive," he said, "but are you part of a religious organization?" Taken a little by surprise, I said, "Well, yes. I'm a member of the Hare Krsna movement." Please accept my obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! My name is Gayatri dd and I would like to ask all of my fellow Vaishnavas and Vaishnavis to contact me if they are in need of a website. I am trying to manage keeping up my service at the temple (New Goloka, NC) and getting a degree in psychology at the same time, and I need some finances to finish my schooling. A Time for Reflection By Padmapani das Posted January 10, 2003 New Year's Day. A time to reflect upon the past, imbibe the lessons learned, and look forward to a new beginning. When I first joined the temple, a devotee explained to me that everyone who comes in contact with Krsna is a great soul, a mahatma. He told me that even the postman who delivers Krsna's mail is very special and should be respected. I was in awe. As a new member of ISKCON, I was sometimes naive and overzealous. Having been instructed that hot showers meant too much attachment for the material body, I was very strict about taking cold showers only. One day while waiting in line for my morning shower, I noticed hot steam pouring from under the shower curtain. Being a little puffed up with my newfound enthusiasm, I banged on the cubicle and said aloud, "Hey Prabhu, that's maya [illusion]." There was no reply, so I banged a little harder: "Come on, Prabhu, that's sense gratification." Devotees Meet Arizona Governor-Elect By Dr Prayag Narayan das Misra Posted January 10, 2003

A Conversation with Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja Posted January 2, 2003
Devotee: Srila Prabhupada always emphasized that he was eternally present in his books, instructions, tapes, and letters. So when you say we should take association of a sadhu can we do that through Srila Prabhupada's books? Gour Govinda Swami: If Prabhupada says he is there, then you try to see him, associate with him, and listen from him. Do you see Prabhupada? Do you hear from Prabhupada? Is he speaking to you? Devotee: Through his books. Gour Govinda Swami: Through his books, yes. All sadhus speak through their books. Jiva Goswami, Rupa Goswami, Sanatana Goswami, Bhaktivinode Thakur, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati, and Srila Prabhupada all say that they speak through books. This is not a new thing. This is our Vaisnava procedure. But you should see him. Can you see Bhaktivinode Thakur? Can you see Jiva Goswami? You may say, "Oh I have read their books; I have their association." That won't help you. From Srimati dasi Posted January 2, 2003 [See "Had a Stroke— Must Sell My Mayapur Ashram" Dipika, December 21, 2002] Hare Krsna, Dear Devotees, Please accept my humble obeisances. The manufacturers have refused to pull them from the shops because they believe they appeal to people for "fashion reasons." The National Council of Hindu Temples complained to the company that the products were very unacceptable and offensive, and encouraged people to "blow their nose on holy images."
